Ancient China Tea Brick & Tea Braid
In order to be able to transport easily serviceable and durable tea on the long caravan trips, the tea was made fit to travel. For the tea braids, it was rolled into palm leaves and bound with threads. For the tea bricks, the tea leaves were dried, cut and pressed into the form of a brick over water steam. In China, this tea brick was also used as a method of payment for a long period of time. The ornaments of the bricks now document the origin and quality of the tea. Today, this type of storage is hardly used and bricks usually are for decoration only while the braids can also be used to create a tea bath.
